The number and diversity of civil society organizations participating in Global and Regional Platforms, the India Conference and key Organization of Disaster Manager’s initiatives has grown steadily. Over 175 organizations have contributed to Prevention Web and over 500 participants from civil society participated in the India Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction in Delhi.
Through securing space for civil society in Global and Regional Platforms, governments have gained new perspective on issues affecting implementation of disaster risk reduction and discovered new opportunities for cooperation:
- Views from the Frontline (VFL) prepared by the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR), has provided insights into progress in the Hyogo Framework for Action of Disaster Risk Reduction since 2009.
- Outcomes of the regional and global platforms have, since 2010, included commitments by civil society, many of which formed the basis for voluntary commitments in NDMA
Organization Of Disaster Manager’s directly with both individual organizations and works to actively strengthen and grow civil society networks, globally and regionally, for outreach and implementation. Organization Of Disaster Manager’s advocacy campaigns, such as the International have proven to be important vehicles for reaching out to new partners in civil society and have helped to consolidate communities of practice among groups such as such as persons living with disabilities and older persons.
